Since Friday, January 21, 2011 Egypt saw widespread protests against its government’s rule and these protests were to reach a considerably massive scale a week later on Friday, 28 January, 2011. However, during the night of Thursday, January 27, 2011 Egypt cut off almost all access to the Internet - an instance unprecedented in the history of the Internet.
In an article tilted "Egypt Leaves the Internet" in the Renesys website, it is reported that a major part of Egyptian Internet has fallen off the Internet and Link Egypt, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone/Raya and Etisalat Misr as well as all their customers and partners are off the Internet. The cutoff seems to have taken place approximately around 10.30pm GMT on Thursday, January 27, 2011.
