The British Columbia Red Cedar Awards Program for BC children in grades four to seven is an in-school program that allows students to read some of the best fiction and non-fiction that Canada has to offer. Two books are chosen for this prestigious award; one for fiction and one for non-fiction or information books.
The 2009/2010 Red Cedar Winners
The non-fiction category included a stellar list of books for elementary school-aged children. Thirteen books ultimately made the finals, representative of authors and publishers from across Canada. Congratulations to the winner of the 2009/2010 Red Cedar Information Book Award: Sweet: the delicious story of candy by Ann Love and Jane Drake, illustrated by Claudia Davila. (Tundra Books).
The fiction category was no less impressive, and provides for an excellent reading list for children, The winner of the Red 2009/2010 Red Cedar Fiction Book award is Dear Jo: the story of losing Leah...and searching for hope, by Christina Kilbourne. (Lobster Press).
